Covid-19 update: India’s recoveries cross 90-lakh mark

India recorded 36,594 new confirmed Covid-19 infections on Friday, pushing the overall tally to 95,71,559. In the last 24-hour, 540 more people succumbed to the deadly virus, taking the fatality tally to 1,39,188, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.

In a major development, India’s recoveries have crossed 90-lakh mark with 42,916 more people recovering from the virus on Thursday, the Ministry added.

Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in country have dropped down to 4,16,082

Total number of samples tested up to 3rd December is 14,47,27,749 including 11,70,102 samples which were tested on Thursday: Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR).

As on date, the recovery rate stands at 94.2 per cent while the fatality rate has further dropped to 1.45 as per cent, the Ministry said.

Here’re more updates related to the pandemic:

*Telangana reported 631 confirmed cases of virus which have pushed the state’s tally to 2.72 lakh. With two more fatalities recorded, the death toll stands at 1,467, the state government said on Friday.

*Jharkhand has logged in 233 new cases of covid-19, taking the state’s overall tally to 1,09,771, PTI reported. Six more virus related death were reported on Thursday due to which the toll reached 977, it added.

*Moderna, who recently said that their vaccine has 94 efficacy, produces anti-bodies which can last up to three months, a study said on Thursday.

* Maharashtra, Delhi, Kerala, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Chhattisgarh account for over 70 per cent of India’s total covid-19 tally, the Health Ministry said.

*Canada government on Thursday said that it plans to start vaccination drive in the country from January.

Meanwhile, the overall number of global covid-19 cases on Friday touched the grim milestone of 65 million. The death toll, too, reported yet another grim milestone as it touched 1.50 million mark.

The United States remains the worst hit country by the pandemic with 14, 14,124,678 cases and 276,148, John Hopkins University reported.
