Uttar Pradesh woman killed by tantrik on pretext of changing her gender

According to police, a tantrik (occultist) killed a woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanabad district after promising to change her gender so that she may wed her lesbian partner.

Preeti, a resident of Puwayan, had become friends with the deceased Poonam, a resident of the area around the RC Mission police station. Both afterwards started dating someone of the same sex.

According to the police, Preeti was unable to marry once her relationship with Poonam became public knowledge.

They claimed that Preeti and her mother Urmila met Ramnivas, a tantrik who lived in the Mohammadi area, and devised a plot to murder Poonam.

Poonam desired to become a man, which Preeti had told the tantrik. Preeti’s mother allegedly took advantage of this by promising the tantrik that he would receive Rs. 1.5 lakh in exchange for killing Poonam. She allegedly gave the tantrik Rs 5,000 in advance and promised to give him the rest when he killed Poonam.

Preeti contacted Poonam and told her the tantrik will change her gender, as per the plan. On April 18, Poonam left her house, and she has been missing ever since. On April 26, her brother reported a missing person.
