The CBI has taken a big action in the famous Gomti River Front scam of UP. The Anti-Corruption Wing of CBI is raiding many places regarding the scam. Apart from UP, the CBI team has raided 40 places in Rajasthan and West Bengal. In UP, raids have been conducted in the capital Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr and Rae Bareli. On Friday itself, a case has been registered against 190 people.
Significantly, the River Front scam happened during the tenure of the SP government. The SP government had sanctioned 1513 crores for the Gomti River Front in Lucknow. Even after the release of Rs 1437 crore, only 60 percent work was done. The institutions working for the river front did not complete the work even after spending 95 percent of the budget.
In 2017, the Yogi government had constituted a judicial commission ordering an inquiry into the river front. The investigation revealed that the conditions of the tender were changed to award the contract to the defaulting company. About 800 tenders were floated in the entire project, the authority of which was given to the Chief Engineer. In May 2017, a judicial commission headed by retired judge Alok Kumar Singh was investigated, in whose report many flaws were exposed. On the basis of the commission’s report, the Yogi government had sent a letter to the Center for a CBI investigation.
The Anti-Corruption Wing of CBI Lucknow had registered an FIR against dozens of people in the River Front scam. Apart from Lucknow in UP, raids have been conducted in Noida, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Rae Bareli, Sitapur, Etawah and Agra. Riverfront scams happened in the SP government in which raids have been started.
Actually, the allegations of riverfront scam have been on the Samajwadi Party government. The riverfront was built in the SP government on the banks of the Gomti river, which SP President Akhilesh Yadav has been campaigning for.
