APAAR: The Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR), also known as “One Nation, One Student ID,” is a plan by the Ministry of Education (MoE) to modernise the Indian educational system by giving students a permanent ID number.
APAAR Adoption Begins, Transforming Indian Education
The MoE recently gave schools the go-ahead to start the APAAR adoption process. The Union government claims that APAAR has the power to change Indian students’ academic experiences, improve their access to opportunities, and streamline administrative procedures for educational institutions. The National Educational Technology Forum (NETF) was created as a platform for the free exchange of ideas on the use of technology to enhance learning, assessment, planning, and administration — both for schools and higher education — as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
A Digital Academic Archive for Every Student
Every student in pre-primary through higher education will receive a special identifying number under APAAR. This number would act as a digital archive, recording their academic successes, test outcomes, learning outcomes, and extracurricular successes. Each student’s identity will be verified upon enrollment in APAAR using their Aadhaar ID or other legally recognised documents, and a unique identification number will be produced for them. Higher education institution (HEI) instructors will be subject to a parallel verification process. Students and staff members will also be able to register using PAN cards. Additionally, foreign students will have the option of registering on APAAR while using their passports. With the help of this central repository, students would be able to keep a thorough digital record of their whole academic career, making it simple to retrieve and share their credentials as needed.

Students would be able to safely save and maintain their academic data digitally thanks to APAAR. This system offers a practical platform for storing and accessing transcripts, certificates, and other academic achievements while considerably lowering the danger of losing crucial papers.
