Anurag Danda Slams Haryana Govt Over Police Lathi-Charge on Students’ Peaceful Protest at Agricultural University

A fresh controversy has erupted in Haryana after police allegedly used force on students staging a peaceful protest at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University. The incident reportedly took place at midnight, where students sitting on a peaceful dharna to press for their demands were lathi-charged by the police.

Senior Congress leader Anurag Danda strongly condemned the incident, calling it “shameful” and questioning the so-called “Haryana Model” of governance under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. He accused the state government of resorting to police action instead of addressing the genuine demands of the students.

This incident adds to the ongoing debate around governance in Haryana

Danda said, “Is this the BJP’s Haryana Model? Students are raising their rightful issues through peaceful protest, but instead of dialogue, the government is silencing them with batons.”

The students, who had gathered at the university campus, claim they were demanding fair academic policies, better facilities, and more transparency in recruitment processes. Eyewitnesses said that the protest was completely non-violent until police intervened late at night. Videos and photos circulating on social media reportedly show police personnel using force to disperse the students, sparking outrage among civil society groups and opposition parties.

Critics argue that the state government’s handling of student issues with force rather than dialogue reflects poorly on democratic values. Political analysts believe that such incidents could further fuel unrest among Haryana’s youth, who have already been vocal about unemployment and educational reforms.

Meanwhile, the government has not yet released an official statement addressing the incident or the students’ specific demands. Opposition leaders, including Congress representatives, have demanded immediate action against the officials responsible for the lathi-charge and have called for open talks with the protesting students.

This incident adds to the ongoing debate around governance in Haryana, especially with the BJP-led state government facing questions over law and order, education, and employment.
