India Becomes Global EV Hub ! PM Modi Flags Off Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Launch Heralds Rs 70000 Crore Investment Blitz

On August 26, 2025, PM Modi unveiled the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara EV in Gujarat. Suzuki revealed a ₹70,000 crore investment over the next 5–6 years spread across electric vehicle production, battery manufacturing, and research and development. The project is expected to generate employment, raise exports, and establish India as a global electric vehicle hub.

At Suzuki’s Gujarat factory in Hansalpur on August 26, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the first electric SUV from Maruti Suzuki, the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara. With this event, the company took a giant step into India’s electric vehicle market and made it clear that India is a global EV hub. Suzuki Motor Corporation confirmed simultaneously that it will release a ₹70,000 crore plan for India to be implemented over the next 5-6 years.

Suzuki’s ₹70,000 crore investment plan

The investment will be focused on raising capacities for manufacturing, encouraging the production of EV, and creating battery assembly as well as recycling units. As quoted by company officials, this fund will be used for mass production of the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara as well as other electric vehicle models. The facility in Gujarat is intended not only to serve domestic customers, but also to become the center for India’s EV exports to international destinations.

India’s EV growth push

Maruti Suzuki’s electric Vitara launch perfectly fits into the government agenda, pushing electric mobility and promoting clean energy. As per the officials, this plan aims at creating thousands of jobs while also assigning India a major role in the global electric vehicle supply chain. The plant in Gujarat, already among the largest of Suzuki’s outside Japan, would therefore have the most important function in the development of EV production.

Political and industry reactions

While speaking at the event, PM Modi observed that the launch of the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara indicates that the Indian manufacturing ecosystem is vibrant and can be relied upon. He further added that electric mobility is not only the need of the hour but also a golden opportunity for India to take the lead in this sustainable technology field globally. Industry experts applauded the announcement with their support of it, stating it as one of the greatest pledges of investments towards the Indian automobile sector made by Suzuki so far.

Future roadmap

Part of the 70,000 crore will cover the electric vehicle-related R&D plus technological developments. According to the company’s statement, the strategy is to debut multiple electric and hybrid models over the next few years. Consequently, the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara will be positioned as the leader of the pack and will be the start of Maruti Suzuki’s EV space transition, simultaneously celebrating India’s drive to cut carbon emissions and lessen oil dependency.
