NIRF Ranking 2025: The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, has once again upheld its reputation as a premier healthcare and academic institution by securing the second position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 under the medical category. This marks the eighth consecutive year that PGIMER has held this spot, reflecting its sustained excellence in medical education and research.
Strong Performance Across Parameters
The institute achieved 91.33 out of 100 in Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), 82.92 in Research and Professional Practices (RPC), 82.93 in Graduation Outcomes, 67.42 in Outreach and Inclusivity, and 69.72 in the Perception category. These scores collectively reaffirm PGIMER’s position among India’s most prestigious medical institutions.
Last year, PGIMER had scored 91.49 in TLR, 79.94 in RPC, 78.86 in Graduation Outcomes, 67.87 in Outreach and Inclusivity, and 68.37 in Perception. In 2023, the scores stood at 88.53 in TLR, 83.15 in RPC, 79.79 in Graduation Outcomes, 64.97 in Outreach and Inclusivity, and 71.42 in Perception. The consistent high performance highlights the institute’s stability in maintaining top academic and research standards.

At the award ceremony held in New Delhi, PGI’s Dean (Academics) Dr RK Ratho received the recognition on behalf of the institute.
National Ranking Highlights
In the 10th edition of the NIRF Rankings, AIIMS New Delhi retained the top position in the medical category, followed by PGIMER Chandigarh in second place, CMC Vellore at third, and NIMHANS Bengaluru at fourth.

Launched in 2015 by the Union Ministry of Education, the National Institutional Ranking Framework evaluates institutions across five parameters—Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practices (RPC), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Perception (PR). The framework aims to promote accountability, transparency, and healthy competition among higher education institutions in India.
