Maharashtra Government Makes e-KYC Mandatory for Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana Beneficiaries

The GR makes it clear that beneficiaries who fail to complete Aadhaar-based authentication will not receive their allowance

Ladki Bahin Yojana :The Maharashtra government has made e-KYC mandatory for all beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, according to a Government Resolution (GR) issued late Thursday night. Beneficiaries must complete the verification and authentication process within two months to continue receiving their monthly financial assistance.

Under the scheme, which was launched ahead of the 2024 Assembly elections, eligible women in the 21–65 age group receive ₹1,500 per month directly in their bank accounts. Currently, the scheme has an estimated 2.25–2.30 crore beneficiaries.

Verification drive after irregularities

The decision follows reports of large-scale irregularities in the list of beneficiaries. According to government data, nearly 26.34 lakh ineligible recipients, including men, were found to have availed benefits. In February 2025, around five lakh beneficiaries were removed from the rolls for being ineligible, followed by the removal of 2,289 government servants. Shockingly, officials also found that 14,000 men had wrongly benefited from the scheme.

Annual verification made compulsory

The GR makes it clear that beneficiaries who fail to complete Aadhaar-based authentication will not receive their allowance. Moreover, the e-KYC process will be compulsory every year to ensure transparency and accountability in the scheme’s implementation.

Portal for e-KYC

State Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare said that a dedicated web portal — ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in — has been launched for this purpose. “All beneficiaries are requested to complete the e-KYC process in the next two months. The process is simple and user-friendly,” she said in a post on X.

Tatkare further highlighted that the e-KYC will not only ensure timely assistance to eligible women but will also help them access other government welfare schemes in the future.

Ensuring transparency

Officials stated that this step was necessary to restore public trust and maintain the integrity of the scheme. The government believes that compulsory annual verification will curb misuse and ensure that benefits reach the intended group of women, empowering them socially and economically.
