In a significant strike against Punjab’s drug nexus, the Counter Intelligence (CI) unit of Punjab Police, Patiala, has arrested Vansh Kumar, a resident of Dalam in Batala, and seized 4.721 kg of heroin during an intelligence-based operation in Jalandhar.
Accused linked to Dubai-based handler and jailed gangster
According to preliminary investigation, the accused Vansh Kumar was working as an associate of Amrit Dalam, who is currently based in Dubai. Amrit is known to be a close aide of notorious jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, who continues to wield influence in Punjab’s criminal and drug trafficking circles from behind bars.
Police sources said that the seizure is a part of a larger transnational network, involving both backward linkages (suppliers and financiers) and forward linkages (local distributors and peddlers).
FIR registered, probe widened
Following the recovery, an FIR has been registered at Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar. Officials confirmed that further interrogation of the accused will help unravel the broader network and identify more operatives, both within Punjab and abroad.
Punjab Police reiterates ‘zero tolerance’ against drugs
The Punjab Police, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, reaffirmed its determination to dismantle drug cartels operating in the state.
A senior police spokesperson said, “This seizure once again shows Punjab Police’s resolve to root out drugs. We are following every lead and will not rest until the entire nexus is exposed.”
CM Bhagwant Mann’s focus on a drug-free Punjab
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has consistently emphasized the importance of a drug-free Punjab, directing law enforcement agencies to launch coordinated crackdowns against traffickers, smugglers, and gangsters.
Officials stated that operations like these are a step towards ensuring a safer, drug-free society, in line with the state government’s ongoing mission.
