Punjab Sets Benchmark of Strength: Mann Government’s Financial Management Achieves Historic Growth in GST Collection

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema credits strict anti-evasion drives as Punjab collects ₹13,971 Cr GST, surpassing India’s 6% growth rate.

The Punjab government has once again demonstrated an excellent example of its financial efficiency and management. According to the latest reports, the state has recorded a remarkable historic growth of 22.35% in GST (Goods and Services Tax) collection during the first six months of the year 2025-26. The state’s total GST collection reached ₹13,971 crores during April to September 2025, compared to ₹11,418 crores during the same period last year. This achievement is significantly higher than the national average, as the national GST growth rate remained around 6%.

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that Punjab recorded an additional GST revenue growth of ₹2,553 crores during the first six months of this year. He mentioned that during the same period last year, the state’s GST growth rate was merely 5%, which has now increased to 22.35%.

The Punjab government’s strict action and enforcement policy against tax evasion has played a decisive role in revenue growth. During April to September 2025, the Taxation Department canceled input tax credit worth ₹246 crores of 1,162 taxpayers and also registered strict FIRs in major tax fraud cases. Road checking and inspection led to a notable 134% increase in penalty collection.

Not just GST, Punjab has also achieved 10% growth in VAT and Central Sales Tax (CST). Additionally, an 11% increase has been recorded in Punjab State Development Tax (PSDT) collection.

Despite challenges in May 2025 such as ‘war-like’ economic conditions, decline in consumer demand, and impact of tariffs on exports, Punjab has set new records in revenue collection, leaving other states behind.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, the state government’s strong policies, transparency, and determination have not only taken Punjab’s economy to memorable heights but have also given new strength to the state’s financial health.

This achievement is not only the result of the trust of Punjabis and the government’s efforts, but also a symbol of the government’s commitment toward Punjab’s overall economic development, transparency, and administrative reforms. This economic strength will continue to pave the way for taking Punjab to new milestones.
