The first look of Anjali Arora as Mata Sita in Shri Ramayan Katha has set the internet buzzing. The social media star (known for her viral “Kacha Badam” reels) is taking on one of the most respected roles in Indian mythology, and the reactions aren’t in her favour.

Will Audience Accept Anjali Arora As Mata Sita

The makers recently dropped a poster showing Anjali dressed as Sita. She is seen in a saffron saree with gold jewellery, holding a basket of fruit. Her simple and traditional look is a complete change from her usual glamorous social media style. However, the look faced heavy trolling online instead of praise.

Online users felt that Anjali didn’t fit the role of Sita. The criticism mostly comes from her online image. Many people believe her bold reels and viral fame don’t match the purity associated with Sita.

“Ye to sita g k getup m b suparnkhaa hi lag rhi h.”

“Jinke karname pure bharat me Charchit h vo ab maa jagdamba sita ka role krege.”

“Look at her nose, look at her expression, Surpanakha lg rhi, not justice for sita maa role.”

“Bhai, pls boycott kro.”

“Sita maa ka naam kharab kar rhi hai.”

“Dharam k saath mat khelo ki tum kisi ko bhi mata sita ka roll dedo.”

“Kis angle se yeh sita maa lag rhi hai jara dhyan se dekho suparnkhaa lag rhi hai.”

What Anjali Said About Her Role

In a 2024 interview with Times of India, she shared, “I feel blessed to have been offered the part.” Responding to trolling, she said, “I can’t change people’s mindsets. As an actor, I commit to every character I am offered with full conviction. Besides, we can’t stop trolls, as they believe they have the right to criticise us. My social media image has nothing to do with my acting and won’t affect my performance; I aim to prove myself instead of seeking validation from others.”

Directed by Abhishek Singh, Shri Ramayan Katha also stars Dev Sharma as Lord Rama. The film is set to hit cinemas in December 2025.

Interestingly, another Ramayana film featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi is also in the works. Comparisons between the two versions are already being discussed online. But Anjali says she’s ready for it. She said, “I am aware that comparisons are bound to be made, and who isn’t afraid of comparisons? However, if I am compared to a Bollywood actress, I will be happy.”

While social media remains divided, all eyes are now on Anjali to see if she can win hearts with her performance.
