The much-anticipated 63-km Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway is nearing completion and is expected to become operational by mid-December 2025, marking a major milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure development. Once completed, the expressway will drastically cut travel time between the two key cities—from nearly three hours to just 40 minutes—enhancing both convenience and regional mobility.
Faster Travel and Modern Infrastructure
Developed under the supervision of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the expressway features a 45-km greenfield section and an 18-km elevated corridor within Lucknow city limits. The corridor is equipped with streetlights, solar-powered lighting systems, road indicators, and reflectors, ensuring safety and sustainability. In addition, five toll plazas will be set up along the route to support maintenance and operational efficiency.
Economic and Regional Impact
According to NHAI officials, the project is expected to be traffic-ready by December 15, 2025. Once functional, it will not only reduce congestion on NH-27 but also serve as a catalyst for economic growth in central Uttar Pradesh. The corridor is expected to boost inter-city trade, attract investment, and enhance logistics and supply chains across the region.
Transforming Urban Mobility
By linking two of the state’s major economic hubs—Kanpur and Lucknow—the expressway is set to significantly strengthen regional connectivity and foster urban and industrial development. It reflects Uttar Pradesh’s growing focus on modern infrastructure as a driver of economic integration, employment generation, and sustainable mobility.
The Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway thus stands as a symbol of progress and connectivity, redefining travel between the twin cities and paving the way for a more connected, prosperous Uttar Pradesh.
