Diwali 2025 was expected to be all about Thamma at the box office. Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s horror-comedy did start well. But the romantic drama Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat also surprised viewers. The Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa starrer earned around rs 8 crore on its first day. This shows that love stories still attract audiences.

According to Sacnilk, the film got a good response across India, especially in smaller cities. At one point, analysts thought it could open over Rs 10 crore. In the end, it settled for Rs 8.50 crore.

Considering it had no major star power and had to compete with Thamma, this is a solid start. The film now has one of the biggest openings for a romantic drama in 2025. Only Saiyaara opened bigger, at Rs 20.50 crore. It also beat recent releases like Dhadak 2 (Rs 4 crore) and Metro In Dino (Rs 3 crore).

Interestingly, the film has already earned about six times more than Sanam Teri Kasam did during its first run. While it is too early to say if it will beat the lifetime earnings of Sanam Teri Kasam, which crossed Rs 100 crore in India after re-release, the strong start is promising.

About The Film: Plot, Cast, Runtime

Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is directed by Milap Zaveri. The film runs for around 141 minutes. Harshvardhan Rane plays Vikramaditya Bhonsle, a politician whose love for the free-spirited Adaa Randhawa (Sonam Bajwa) turns into obsession. The story explores how passion can turn dangerous and lead to heartbreak.

The film’s promotions were unique. Harshvardhan Rane personally sold tickets and put up posters across Mumbai to reach viewers. Originally called Deewaniyat, the film was retitled in May. This helped clarify its theme and make it stand out during the Diwali rush.
