The government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann in Punjab has taken a historic step in the field of education, one that will ignite the passion for nation-building in the hearts of millions of young people. The ‘Mock Session’ to be held in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on November 26 is not merely an event, but a nursery of democracy where future leaders will be prepared. This initiative is especially for students of government schools. It demonstrates that the Mann government values not just their academic education, but also their political and social development. This is a tremendous honour and inspiration for students who come from remote areas.
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan held a Virtual Meeting with all District Officers and asked them to select one student from each Punjab Assembly constituency. The student selected from the Dhuri constituency will play the role of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, while the student selected from Qadian will play the role of the Leader of the Opposition. Students from the Scheduled Caste (SC) category will be selected for the reserved seats. One student from each constituency of the AAP MLAs will sit on the treasury benches, while students selected from the constituencies of the Cabinet Ministers will take on the roles of Cabinet Ministers.
Providing details, Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that students of classes 11th and 12th will participate in this Mock Session, which is being held for students in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha for the first time. The students’ session will run for the entire day, just like a regular session. He emphasized that students can progress and elect the right representatives only if they have proper knowledge of politics. He informed that so far, approximately 2400-2500 students from government schools have visited the Punjab Vidhan Sabha. Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan further said that a Mock Session will be organized in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha by selecting one student from each Assembly constituency to impart knowledge about the functioning of the political system, law-making, budget preparation, etc. Only selected students from government schools will participate in this Mock Session.
This decision shows that the Mann government is not just making buildings ‘smart’, but is also making the nation’s future, i.e., our students’ minds, ‘smart’ and politically aware. Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan has advanced this initiative, the objective of which is to provide students with direct knowledge of politics and the law-making process. He stated that the Punjab government is taking significant steps to provide students with knowledge of the political arena alongside their education.
Often, politics is considered a distant matter, which the youth shy away from. But in this Mock Session, students from government schools selected from every constituency will not only visit the Assembly but will themselves play the roles of the Chief Minister, Ministers, and Leader of the Opposition. They will learn how questions are asked, how laws are made, and how a responsible representative works. This initiative of the Mann government is not limited to textbook knowledge; it is a major investment toward producing good citizens and honest leaders.
When an ordinary government school student sits on the chair in the Assembly where the great leaders of Punjab sit, this experience will give them immense confidence. It will make them feel that they are not just citizens but active participants in this democracy. It will convey to them that the centre of power is for the common person, and how crucial it is for them to be aware to elect the right representative. This will assure them that democracy in Punjab can never be weak under the Mann government.
This decision of the ‘Mann Government’ is not just a one-day programme but an investment—an investment in the future of the nation. It will instill a spirit of leadership in students, inspire them to think about serious issues, and teach them how essential active participation is for a strong democracy. On November 26, history will be made in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, where the power of youth will lay the foundation for the India of the future with their knowledge and skill! This will be the emotional moment when we feel that our country’s democracy is in safe and strong hands.
This initiative of the Mann government is truly commendable. It shows that education means not just obtaining a degree, but also understanding one’s responsibility towards the country and society. This ‘Mock Session’ will become a source of inspiration for millions of students and will provide new energy and sensible leadership to Indian democracy. This is not just a one-day session, but the foundation stone for a golden tomorrow.
