What could have been a sure fall and misery is, however, reversed by a mall security guard. The man, with his instant reflex, grabbed the hand of the child and held her up and close to him. Then he gradually took the escalator to return the child to her apologising mother.

In 2019, an 18-month-old toddler slipped through a gap while being held by a family member on a metro escalator in Bengaluru, resulting in her death. Similarly, in 2017, a child at a mall in Hyderabad suffered severe injuries after tumbling off an escalator, an accident attributed to parental inattention.
These incidents, marked by lapses in supervision, underscore the vulnerability of children in crowded public spaces. Despite efforts to improve safety, such tragedies continue to raise concerns about the need for heightened awareness, stricter regulations, and better safety standards to prevent future accidents.
Online Reactions Highlight Growing Concerns About Child Safety
The viral video is thus a clear indicator that child safety measures are getting compromised with the rise in stressed and self-indulgent mothers. One user commented, “The mother was so distracted by her luggage, she completely forgot about her child’s safety — it’s heartbreaking how easily things could have gone horribly wrong.” Another added, “That security guard deserves all the praise.
