IndiGo Flight Disruptions: Full Refunds Announced as Centre Cracks Down on Opportunistic Pricing

Senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation have also demanded a comprehensive operational report from IndiGo

In the wake of the widespread disruption caused by operational chaos at IndiGo, the airline has announced that all refunds for cancelled flights will be processed automatically to passengers’ original mode of payment. This comes as a relief for thousands of travellers who were left stranded or forced to make last-minute changes to their plans.

Full Refunds Announced as Centre Cracks Down on Opportunistic Pricing

The airline has also offered a complete waiver on cancellation and rescheduling fees for all bookings scheduled between 5 December and 15 December 2025. IndiGo stated that these measures are being implemented to ensure passengers do not bear additional financial stress during an already difficult period, reiterating its apology for the inconvenience faced.

Government of India has stepped in to restore order in the aviation sector

Amid this turmoil, the Government of India has stepped in to restore order in the aviation sector. Taking note of sharp spikes in ticket prices on multiple domestic routes, the Centre issued strict instructions to airlines to adhere to newly introduced fare caps, preventing carriers from exploiting the situation through surge pricing.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation have also demanded a comprehensive operational report from IndiGo, including details of crew shortages, flight rotations, ground handling delays, and passenger management practices. The government has emphasised that airlines must maintain transparency, provide timely updates to customers, and ensure prompt assistance at airports.

Industry experts believe the situation has exposed deeper structural issues in the Indian aviation ecosystem, including heavy dependence on lean staffing and the pressure of high-frequency schedules. The Centre’s intervention is expected to not only stabilise fares in the short term but also push airlines to strengthen internal planning and crisis management.

For passengers, these measures offer immediate relief and restore a sense of fairness in travel costs. As operations gradually normalise, the focus remains on safeguarding the interests of the Nation, Business, and People, ensuring that trust in India’s fast-growing aviation sector remains intact.
