Is Muhammad Yunus deliberately Failing Bangladesh? After Dipu Chandra Das, Another Student Leader Shot Dead in Islamic State Ahead Of February 2026 Elections

Muhammad Yunus: After Dipu Chandra Das's open lynching, Motaleb Sikdar has been shot dead in broad daylight, putting Bangladesh on the brink again.

Muhammad Yunus: Bangladesh has witnessed another high-profile shootout after a senior leader of the student-led National Citizen Party (NCP) was shot dead in the head in Khulna.

Bangladeshi media reports revealed that unknown gunmen attacked Muhammad Motaleb Sikdar, a central figure in NCP’s labour organization.

The shooting incident happened around 11:45 am on Monday at a house in the Sonadanga area of the city. Saif Nawaz, an organizer of the NCP’s Khulna metropolitan unit, remarked the Sikdar is a central organizer and the Khulna divisional convener of the NCP’s labour wing, Jatiya Sramik Shakti.

Sikdar was working on organizing a divisional labour rally for the party in Khulna, which was scheduled to take place soon. He received a gunshot wound to the left side of his head. The hardline leader has succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Bangladesh Student Leader suffered a gunshot injury to the left side of his head and is receiving treatment at a hospital. The incident occurred around 11:45 am on Monday at a house in the Sonadanga area of the city, the Bangladeshi daily Prothom Alo reported.

Saif Nawaz, an organizer of the NCP’s Khulna metropolitan unit, told the publication that Sikdar is a central organizer and the Khulna divisional convener of the NCP’s labour wing, Jatiya Sramik Shakti.

Animesh Mandal, the Inspector (Investigation) of Sonadanga Police Station, said Sikdar was rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital after being shot.

Political Violence in Bangladesh

A few days back, radical leader Sharif Osman Hadi was shot dead. This led to massive nationwide protests and hate crimes against Hindus in the state. In these attacks, Dipu Chandra Das was lynched and his body was burnt in open.

Bangladesh’s interim chief, Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, who shares close ties with the student-led National Citizens Party (NCP) has been pushing his country for closer ties with Pakistan. This has to come at a cost of Bangladesh distancing itself from India, its long-time ally.
