Weather Update December 23 2025: Dense Fog To Cover North India, Chillai Kalan Hits J&K Hard, HP and Uttarakhand Under Snow

Weather Update December 23 2025: Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh along with Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh are likely to witness chilly days.

Weather Update December 23 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released weather alerts for December 23, 2025.

Jammu and Kashmir

On Sunday, the state welcomed Chillai Kalan – the 40-day period of severe winter cold – with the season’s first snowfall. The state is expected to witness intense snowfall and chilly winds throughout the next 2-4 days. Moderate to heavy snowfall is also likely at isolated places over Western Himalayan Region Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit Baltistan-Muzaffarabad.

After fresh snowfall, Gulmarg, Anantnag, Kishtwar and Sonamarg were glistening in shades of white. The minimum and maximum temperatures in Srinagar are expected to settle around 3 and 9 degrees Celsius on 23 December.

Transportation in Sonamarg, Mughal and Sinthan Top roads is likely to get impacted due to snow accumulation.

Rajasthan

The IMD has issued a yellow alert in 10 districts of the state for December 23 because of the possibility of dense fog and a cold wave.

Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand

The states are likely to experience dense fog, chilly winds and snowfall. Isolated parts of the two states may experience severe fog, possibly causing travel disruptions. Sub-zero temperatures may be noticed in some parts of Himachal Pradesh.

Weather Update December 23 2025-Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh

The Delhi NCR region is likely to experience a shift in winter landscape, with cold conditions and chilly waves accompanied by dense fog likely in most parts. Surface wind speed is likely to be around 15-25 kilometer per hour during the day.
