Aadhaar PAN Linking Deadline: Doomsday Ahead If…., Correct in 5 Minutes or Face Blackout!

Aadhaar PAN Linking Deadline: Would individuals who have not linked their Aadhaar with PAN face the risk of their PAN becoming inoperative from January 1, 2026? Find out!

Aadhaar PAN Linking Deadline: The Ministry of Finance’s deadline for all individuals who were allotted permanent account number (PAN) using an Aadhaar enrolment ID before October 1, 2024, is just a few days away. Individuals must intimate their Aadhaar number to the Income Tax Department on or before December 31, 2025, or by any later date notified by the Central Board of Direct Taxation (CBDT).

What If You Don’t Link Your Aadhaar And PAN Card?

Permanent account numbers of individuals who have not linked their Aadhaar with their PAN are likely to see their PAN becoming inoperative after January 1, 2026.

This could end up disrupting tax refunds, filings and several financial transactions. This would also mean that tax deduction at source/tax collected at source may not reflect in Form 26AS and could be deducted at higher rates.

Furthermore, new investments, KYC updates and trading can be blocked until the permanent account number gets reactivated. This would also mean that individuals could not apply for personal loans, home loans or low-interest loans. Moreover, higher TDS rates could apply if the PAN becomes inactive. Also, bank account operations and high-value transactions will be restricted.

Aadhaar PAN Linking Deadline: Steps To Link PAN With Aadhaar Online

Individuals are required to visit the official website of the Income Tax Department. Thereafter, they need to choose the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option. Enter the PAN, Aadhaar number and registered mobile number before verifying the one-time password received. In case the PAN is already inoperative, a penalty of Rs. 1,000 must be paid before the PAN can be linked with Aadhaar.

Important Things To Keep In Mind

Individuals must ensure that their details such as date of birth, name and gender match exactly on both Aadhaar and PAN. Moreover, their registered mobile number must be active for OTP verification.
