Bangladesh Unrest: A man was killed in a crude bomb blast in Bangladesh’s Dhaka after miscreants hurled a crude bomb from a flyover in front of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad – the central office of 1971 Liberation War veterans, in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area. A church also happens to be in the vicinity.
The incident happened around 7 pm and the deceased was identified as Saiful, said Inspector (Operations) of Hatirjheel Police Station Md Mohiuddin. The deceased was a private shop employee who was drinking a cup of tea at a roadside stall under the flyover.
Bangladesh Unrest: The Return Of Tarique Rahman
The Dhaka bomb blast comes just ahead of the return of the Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and heir to the influential Zia family.
Tarique Rahman is set to land in Bangladesh on Thursday, ending his nearly 17 years in exile in London. Rahman has emerged as a leading contender for prime minister in the upcoming February general elections.
Security Ahead Of Rahman’s Return
The Muhammad Yunus-led interim government ordered elaborate security arrangements with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) planning to gather millions of supporters to welcome him with a display of strength.
Top-tier security measures across the capital city of Dhaka have been put in place as per Bangladesh Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. A “double-layer” security arrangement, combining state security forces and party-level measures, has been implemented across the capital city to manage crowds and prevent unrest around Rahman’s arrival.
The return of Rahman comes at a time when the nation is reeling under unrest over Inqilab Moncho leader Sharif Osman Hadi‘s killing and the lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu man who was falsely accused of blasphemy.
