CM Yogi Adityanath: Ashok Leyland Facility’s Journey
In September 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has signed between Ashok Leyland and CM Yogi Adityanath. Thereafter, a letter of intent was issued by the Uttar Pradesh government to Ashok Leyland in January 2024. The state-of-the-art EV unit in Lucknow was established in just 14 months.
Investment and Employment
Ashok Leyland has invested approximately ₹1,000 crore in the Lucknow’s Electric Vehicle factory. The unit is a bus-manufacturing and integrated chassis plant. It would have an initial production capacity of 2,500 units every year, which would be expanded to 5,000 units every year in subsequent phases.
The Lucknow EV unit would be manufacturing advanced commercial vehicles based on electric vehicles, internal combustion engines and alternative fuels. This would help in addressing the requirements of both domestic and global markets.
The Uttar Pradesh industrial development minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ said the EV plant would strengthen the automobile manufacturing capabilities of the state and prepare Uttar Pradesh for the future of mobility.
The unit is expected to generate thousands of employment opportunities for the state.
The state of Uttar Pradesh under the able guidance of CM Yogi Adityanath is pursuing a goal to become an economy of $1 trillion by 2030. The state is exploring infrastructure investment, industrial growth and technology to transform the state into an economic powerhouse of the country from its past “Bimaru” image.
