A substantial measure has been taken by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in the direction of reinforcing education and development in the border area when he laid the foundation of a government degree college and vocational training center in the village of Bikraur, Ajnala, close to the international border. The state government has shown its commitment to quality education for the border region by this move through the provision of good education close to home especially for the students living in these border regions.
New Degree College to Serve Border Villages
The new degree college will be built with an investment of ₹15 crore and will cater to students from around 50 nearby villages. After its establishment, the institution will be able to provide higher education not only for boys but also for girls as well ultimately reducing their long-distance travel to urban centers.
Panchayat Contributes Land for Education
The Bikraur village panchayat has shown how to set an example by giving 15 acres of land to the state government for the college’s construction. This gesture has been acknowledged by many as a sign of the good relationship between the government and the local populace that has led to the latter’s support for educational initiatives.
College Named After Baba Gamchukk Ji
The name Baba Gamchukk Ji Memorial Degree College will be given to the institution, thus respecting local culture while at the same time making room for modern educational facilities for the young people to come.

Reaffirming the government’s vision, CM Bhagwant Mann emphasized that education is the foundation of a progressive society. Under the principle of “Vidya Vichari Taan Parupkari”, the Punjab government remains dedicated to ensuring that children receive quality education near their homes.
