Karnataka DGP: Bengaluru, Jan 20, 2026 — The Karnataka government suspended DGP Ramachandra Rao after a video allegedly showing him in a compromising situation. The suspension comes amid public outrage and calls for accountability, prompting a formal inquiry.
The government stated that Rao’s conduct allegedly violated official norms, but the authenticity of the video remains under investigation. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasised that “no one is above the law” and instructed authorities to conduct a thorough probe.
Rao Denies Allegations
Speaking to the media, Rao strongly rejected the charges. He claimed the video clips were manipulated and called the controversy a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation. “These allegations are fabricated,” Rao said, adding that the clips may have been altered using technology.
Rao also suggested that the footage could be several years old and stressed that he had no involvement in the alleged acts. He confirmed that he plans to pursue legal action against those spreading the material.
Political and Public Reaction
The incident has drawn attention from political leaders, social activists, and citizens, all demanding transparency. Complaints have reached central authorities, including the Prime Minister’s Office, increasing pressure on the state government to resolve the matter fairly.
Authorities have begun examining the video’s origin and authenticity. The investigation will determine whether Rao or anyone else involved should face disciplinary or legal action. The case remains under close public and media scrutiny, with updates expected as the probe progresses.
