Weather Update January 22 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain in the Delhi NCR region. It also predicted hailstorm, heavy rainfall and thundersquall in the states of Punjab and Haryana. This would be caused due to two Western Disturbances arriving in quick succession.
Weather Update January 22 2026-Delhi NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan
The Delhi NCR region is likely to witness heavy rainfall after a gap of 107 days. Panipat, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Patiala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Karnal, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Sonipat and Kaithal along with Ghaziabad, Noida, Delhi, Gurugram and Faridabad are likely to receive heavy rainfall.

Due to intense Western disturbance, light to moderate rainfall/snowfall at most places with isolated heavy falls likely over Western Himalayan region and light to moderate rainfall at a few places on plains of northwest India on 22nd & 23rd January, 2026. Hailstorm, lightning & gusty winds at isolated places also likely over the region during same period.
Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are also likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall, especially during early morning and late evening hours.
Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand
The Western Himalayan Region Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit Baltistan-Muzaffarabad is likely to receive heavy rainfall on January 22 and 23. Heavy snowfall is also likely to happen at these and many other places in the states of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Manali is likely to receive fresh snowfall and rainfall.
West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha
Many areas in the states of West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha are likely to experience moderate to thick fog.
Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam
The states of Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam are likely to receive thick fog.
Southern States, Puducherry and Daman & Diu
Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu and Andaman are likely to receive heavy rain and thunderstorms. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe and South Interior Karnataka may receive moderate to heavy rainfall.
