Vishal Bhardwaj: Eminent filmaker Vishal Bhardwaj share his views about censorship, how cinema reflects society and language.
The Kaminey director said he personally does not believe that sanitizing expletives in movies is not a good precedent. Bhardwaj remarked the story, which is the core of a movie, goes beyond harsh language and violence.
Vishal Bhardwaj-O Romeo Trailer Launch
At the launch of O Romeo starring Shahid Kapoor, Bhardwaj remarked the movie is a love story in entirety but with a violent background.
The director commented that expletives like realism should never be diluted for comfort. He mentioned that the regular beep sound every time an expletive is made is a wrong precedent as it denies the real essence of the dialogue to hurt the movie’s magic.
Bhardwaj said our society often has double standards when it comes to Indian cinema. He remarked that people often blame movies for the growing surge in the use of expletives. Bhardwaj remarked we are hypocrite people as we have no issues accepting them on the roads but make an issue when they are shown in movies.
The director rejected the notion that movies shape the morality of our society. He remarked that movies only reflect what already exists. In a laughing tone, Bhardwaj remarked that expletives seem like a form of poetry to him.
O Romeo, which is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, would release on February 13 in theatres. The film stars Triptii Dimri, Nana Patekar, Disha Patani, Vikrant Massey, Avinash Tiwary and Tamannaah Bhatia.
