Border 2 Advance Booking Soars Close To 2 Lakh, Can Sunny Deol Starrer Beat Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan As Highest Grosser During Republic Day Weekend?

Border 2 Advance Booking: Sunny Deol starrer Border 2 is creating a lot of buzz ahead of its Republic Day 2026 weekend release. The patriotic action-drama (a sequel to JP Dutta’s 1997 classic Border) has already recorded impressive advance bookings. Fans are eager to watch the multi-front war drama, and ticket sales show strong anticipation.

By today morning, the advance booking in Hindi 2D version sold around 1,82,737 tickets, grossing approximately Rs 5.85 crore across 13,737 shows. The 4DX format contributed Rs 26,724 from 56 tickets, with an average ticket price of Rs 518, while Dolby Cinema screenings had recorded no sales. Including block bookings, the film’s total advance gross rose to over Rs 10.21 crore.

Border 2 Advance Booking: Can It Beat Pathaan?

The strong advance sales set Border 2 up for a major opening. While it is expected to be one of 2026’s biggest releases, it will compete with previous Republic Day hits like Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan (which collected Rs 58 crore) and Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter (which earned Rs 41.2 crore). Other top releases include Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat (Rs 32 crore), Raees (Rs 26.3 crore) and Jai Ho (Rs 26.25 crore).

For the unversed, Pathaan sold 10.8 lakh tickets across all languages, grossing around Rs 32 crore. Hindi-only pre-sales accounted for Rs 31.2 crore. Although Border 2 trails behind Pathaan, its patriotic theme and star-studded cast could make a strong impact during the Republic Day weekend.

Sunny Deol Aims To Rewrite Box Office Records

Sunny Deol is no stranger to record-breaking openings. His 2023 release Gadar 2 earned Rs 40.1 crore on Day 1 and went on to collect Rs 525.7 crore in India and Rs 686 crore worldwide. With Border 2, he hopes to deliver another blockbuster while honouring India’s armed forces.

Set against the 1971 India-Pakistan War, the film is directed by Anurag Singh (Kesari) and expands the original story to cover the Army, Air Force and Navy. It highlights key historic battles, including the Battle of Basantar, the Battle of Poonch and the defence of INS Khukri. The film showcases the bravery and sacrifices of Indian soldiers across land, air, and sea.

The cast includes Sunny Deol as Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler, Varun Dhawan as Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, Diljit Dosanjh as Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon and Ahan Shetty as Lt Cdr MS Rawat. Supporting roles feature Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana, and Anya Singh. Filming took place at real military locations like INS Vikrant and other cantonments to ensure authenticity.

Produced by T-Series and JP Films, Border 2 is one of the most expensive war films in Indian cinema, with a budget between Rs 150–250 crore. Sunny Deol reportedly commands a fee of Rs 50 crore. The CBFC cleared the film with a U/A 13+ certificate, making only minor visual edits. The final runtime is 3 hours and 19 minutes (199 minutes). Border 2 will release worldwide on January 23.
