Dhar Bhojshala: Supreme Court Allows Hindus and Muslims to Offer Friday Prayers at Disputed Site
The apex court’s order aims to maintain communal harmony while ensuring that religious practices of both sides are respected during the pendency of the case. The arrangement allows prayers to continue under regulated conditions, with authorities directed to ensure law and order at the premises.
Long-Standing Dispute Over Bhojshala Complex
The Bhojshala complex is claimed by Hindus as a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, while Muslims identify it as the Kamal Maula Mosque. Over the years, the site has witnessed legal battles, protests and administrative interventions, especially concerning access for religious practices on specific days.
Friday prayers at the site have often remained sensitive due to overlapping claims. The Supreme Court’s latest direction seeks to prevent escalation by allowing religious activities to continue in a peaceful and orderly manner.
Emphasis on Peace and Law & Order
The court has underlined the responsibility of the state administration to ensure that the arrangement does not disturb public order. Security measures and coordination between district authorities and law enforcement agencies have been emphasised to prevent any untoward incident.
Legal experts say the order reflects the judiciary’s attempt to strike a balance between religious freedom and communal peace, without prejudging the final outcome of the dispute.
Case Still Pending Before Court
While allowing prayers, the Supreme Court has clarified that the order does not affect the merits of the case. The larger issue regarding the historical character and ownership of the Bhojshala complex will continue to be examined through legal proceedings.
The matter remains under judicial consideration, and all stakeholders have been urged to maintain restraint and respect the rule of law.
