As part of the Punjab government’s continued push to strengthen public education, parent workshops are being organised in government schools across the state, reflecting a shift towards community participation and holistic learning. Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO on Thursday attended one such workshop in Jandiala Guru, interacting with parents and school authorities.
Bhagwant Mann Government Driving Major Change in Punjab’s Education Landscape
Officials said the initiative is part of the Bhagwant Mann-led government’s broader education reforms, which aim to rebuild trust in government schools and improve learning outcomes. By actively involving parents in the education process, the government is seeking to create a supportive ecosystem for students both inside and outside the classroom.
Over the past two years, the Mann government has focused on upgrading school infrastructure, improving classrooms, laboratories and sanitation facilities, while also investing heavily in teacher training. Several teachers and principals have been sent for international exposure programmes to bring global best practices into Punjab’s school system.
The government has also prioritised student-centric reforms
The government has also prioritised student-centric reforms, including modern teaching methods, digital learning tools and an emphasis on conceptual understanding rather than rote learning. Officials said these measures are helping government schools compete with private institutions and encouraging parents to re-enrol their children in public schools.
Addressing parents at the workshop, Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh said education is the strongest foundation for social change and economic progress. He said the state government is committed to ensuring that every child in Punjab receives quality education, irrespective of their economic background.
The Punjab government said such parent workshops will continue across districts to strengthen collaboration between schools, teachers and families. Officials believe these reforms are gradually reshaping Punjab’s education landscape and positioning government schools as centres of quality, inclusivity and innovation.
