Priyanka Chopra has long been seen as the face of India’s global crossover success. However, the actor now says her move to Hollywood was not entirely planned. In a recent interview, Priyanka Chopra shared that she never truly intended to leave Bollywood, despite shifting her base to the United States at the height of her Hindi film career.
For years, fans assumed the actor consciously chose Hollywood over Bollywood. But Priyanka’s latest remarks paint a more layered picture. She spoke about feeling restricted during her time in Hindi cinema and hinted that circumstances nudged her toward international opportunities.
Priyanka Chopra On Moving To Hollywood
Speaking to Firstpost, Priyanka Chopra said, “I don’t think I ever wanted to leave Bollywood. I felt limited for many reasons when I was working in Hindi films. Wanted to expand, but was kind of pushed into wanting to look for opportunities that would be exciting to me as an artist. I landed up working in America, and now I feel like after almost 12 years or so, I am finding the momentum to pick and choose really amazing work and that’s not easy.”
DON'T MISS
She continued, “I love my Indian films. I am really happy to be back in Varanasi, India, again and I would hate to have to choose between the two.”
Priyanka said that she has never felt the need to pick between Bollywood and Hollywood. She feels at home in both industries and enjoys working in each of them. According to her, the two industries are very different, just like different cultures. Over the years, she has learned to adjust and think in ways that help her work comfortably in both worlds. She described this experience as rare, exciting and truly rewarding.
Priyanka’s Hollywood Journey
Priyanka’s global journey began in 2012 when she ventured into music. That phase opened doors in the West and eventually led to her acting breakthrough as the lead in the TV series Quantico. The show became a turning point, making her one of the first Indian actors to headline an American network drama.
Subsequently, she appeared in international films including Baywatch and The Matrix Resurrections. While those roles were supporting parts, they helped cement her presence in Hollywood.
Today, Priyanka headlines major projects. These include the action-packed series Citadel and films like Heads of State and The Bluff, where she stars alongside Karl Urban.
At the same time, Priyanka is preparing for a significant homecoming. She will feature in S. S. Rajamouli’s upcoming film, marking her return to Indian cinema after eight years. The project also stars Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film is slated for a theatrical release in April 2027.
