LPG Shortage: A massive surge in demand for electric rice cookers and instant pots could be seen in many parts of the country, especially metro and tier-2 and tier-3 cities amid the ongoing shortage of commercial Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) shortage.

LPG Shortage-What’s The Big Concern?

Small eateries, hotels and restaurants across the country have now been counting on instant pots and electric rice cookers to manage daily cooking without relying on Liquefied petroleum gas.

According to retailers, the spike in demand for electronic cooking appliances is primarily driven by students staying in bachelors living alone and hostels.

Across India, many hostels have issued notices that they would only be offering basic meals for the time being. It was also communicated that self-cooking facilities could not be entertained because of the shortage of commercial LPG cylinders.

Eateries Hit By Commercial LPG Shortages

In many parts of the country, popular breakfast options such as idlis, dosas, poha, chole bhature and biryani are now facing the heat. Small eateries, hotels and restaurants have been forced to shut down or cut down on their menus. Many are contemplating delayed opening hours and the ripple effects of commercial LPG cylinders are seen by students, office-goers and families who depend on them.

In Coimbatore, the iconic Annapoorna Hotel chain issued a public statement saying severe restrictions have been imposed on the distribution of commercial LPG cylinders and therefore we would focus only on essential items.

Several hotels, restaurants and eateries in Hyderabad and Bengaluru are on the verge of temporarily closing down. A warning was issued by the Bengaluru Hotels Association revealed that commercial gas cylinder supplies have been stopped. It added that those would depend on it (such as senior citizens, common people, students, bachelors and others) would find it difficult in their daily meals.
