Is This ‘The End’ For Badshah In Uttar Pradesh? Ban Demand Reaches CM Yogi Adityanath After Tateeree Controversy

Rapper Badshah has landed in fresh trouble after the controversy around his Haryanvi track Tateeree reached the Uttar Pradesh government. The issue has now taken a serious turn after a formal request was sent to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asking authorities not to allow any shows or public events featuring the singer in the state.

CM Yogi Adityanath To Ban Badshah In UP After Tateeree Controversy?

The request was made by Aparna Yadav, Vice-Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women Commission. In her letter, she urged CM Yogi Adityanath to instruct district magistrates across the state not to grant permission for any programmes involving Badshah. The demand comes amid strong objections to the lyrics and visuals of the song, which have been criticised by several groups.

According to the letter, the track allegedly contains objectionable references to women and minors. It also claims that the visuals in the album Tateeree portray women in an indecent and inappropriate way. The complaint further states that certain scenes in the video show schoolgirls in uniforms in a manner that is not suitable.

The letter also mentions that a school, which is considered a sacred place of learning, is referred to using derogatory language in the video. Aparna Yadav argued that such portrayals could harm social values and send a wrong message to young viewers.

Citing Indian cultural traditions that give women the status of “Narayani,” she said that allowing performances by artists who present such content could hurt public sentiment. In her appeal, she again requested that all district authorities in Uttar Pradesh be directed not to approve any event featuring the singer.

All About Tateeree Controversy

The controversy around Tateeree started soon after the song was released on March 7. Soon after its release, the Haryana State Commission for Women issued a notice to Badshah following multiple complaints about the song’s lyrics and video.

The main objection was about the music video, which showed dancers wearing school uniforms performing in a setting named “Badshala”, which sounded similar to the word pathshala (school). Several activists and community leaders criticised the video, saying it objectified women and minors and sent the wrong message to young audiences.

The issue became bigger after an FIR was registered against Badshah at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Panchkula. The case was filed under sections related to outraging public decency and the Indecent Representation of Women Act.

Renu Bhatia, chairperson of the Haryana State Commission for Women, led the action against the song. Haryana Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda also criticised the track, saying it showed Haryanvi culture in a negative way.

After facing strong criticism, Badshah reacted to the controversy and clarified his intention. He said he did not want to insult women or children and explained that he belongs to the hip-hop genre, where lyrics are often written in a competitive style.

He also said that he respects his culture and never meant to hurt anyone’s sentiments. Following the backlash, the singer confirmed that the controversial song had been taken down.

However, the latest letter sent to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister shows that the matter is far from over. If the request is accepted, Badshah may face restrictions on performing in one of the country’s biggest states
