Bengaluru Viral Video: A fresh controversy has erupted after a video of Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Prison has gone viral. In the now viral video, jail inmates could be seen hiding their mobile phones in toilet pipes to express their solidarity for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

In the video footage, inmates would be seen accessing luxury facilities within Bengaluru hail premises. In the video, a group of jail inmates could be seen discussing an upcoming match of the Indian Premier League 2026 match, with one of them remarking “Eesala Nu Cup Namde” (this time the cup is ours).

Bengaluru Viral Video-Turn Of Events

According to media reports, the video was recorded on March 27 by inmates who have been serving jail sentences for more than 2-3 years in connection with a murder case. Preliminary findings showed that mobile phones were concealed by inmates near the toilet block in an underground pipeline. This helped inmates to evade routine security checks.

Officials have now raised concerns over the possibility of internal collusion at the ground staff level. Many media reports have emerged stating that the video’s circulation was a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of Alok Kumar, Director General of Police (Prisons and Correctional Services).

Three jail wardens (Shivanand Karalabatti, Niranjan A Kamat and Hanumanthappa Hadapad) have been suspended.

Social Media Reactions

A user commented, “Peak criminal multitasking. Smuggling cheers from the slammer while warders get canned. RCB fans serving time for optimism!” Another user commented, “IPL fever Jail tak pahuch gaya..Kya Gajab fan hai RCB ke.”

A user said, “If inmates can hide smartphones in pipelines, it raises serious questions about prison security. This is not just about IPL fandom, it’s about how such lapses even happen. Accountability needs to be clearly established here.” Another user said, “The enthusiasm for RCB is one thing, but access to phones inside a high-security jail is alarming. It suggests either negligence or something deeper within the system. This deserves a thorough investigation.”

Another user commented, “Watching inmates casually discuss IPL matches from inside jail feels surreal. The bigger issue is how luxury and communication devices are reaching them. Rules seem to exist only on paper here.” Another user said, “The viral video shows more than just cricket craze. It highlights cracks in prison administration that cannot be ignored. Strict action is needed if internal collusion is involved.”
