Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith has been arrested in a fresh sexual harassment case. The development comes amid ongoing controversy linked to Mollywood’s MeToo phase. An actress accused him of attempting to sexually assault her during a film shoot.
The complaint was reportedly filed on Monday. Soon after, authorities took action and placed him in custody on Tuesday evening. Since then, the news has spread quickly online. Many people are now questioning accountability in the film industry.
Ranjith Arrested After Actress Levels Serious Allegations Against Him
As per PTI report, the actress claimed that Ranjith invited her into a caravan on set. She alleged that he tried to sexually assault her inside. Her statement was recorded at a Women’s Police Station, and the process was handled with strict confidentiality.
Following the complaint, the police began their probe. Ranjith was arrested in Idukki district while travelling for an event. He was first taken to Thodupuzha for formalities. Later, he was handed over to the Kochi City Police for further investigation.

Before going to the police, the actress had raised the issue internally. She filed a complaint with the film’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC). After reviewing the matter, the ICC forwarded the case to the Kerala Police.

Previous Allegations Against Him
This is not the first time Ranjith has faced such accusations. Earlier, he was named in sexual misconduct cases after the 2024 Hema Committee findings shook the Malayalam film industry.
At that time, two FIRs were filed against him based on complaints by a Bengali actress. She alleged that he behaved inappropriately and touched her with sexual intent after offering her a role in Paleri Manikyam in 2009.
The allegations led to strong reactions from within the industry. Several voices demanded his resignation as film academy chairman. However, Ranjith denied all claims and said he is the “real victim” in the situation.
