Aamir Khan has always been honest when it comes to his personal life. In a recent interview, the actor spoke about one of the most difficult phases he went through after separating from his first wife Reena Dutta.
He revealed how the emotional impact of the divorce changed his life in ways he never expected. The moment of weakness slowly turned into a long and painful struggle.
Aamir Khan Opens Up About His Darkest Phase After Divorce
Talking about that time, Aamir said he was never someone who drank alcohol. However, things took a turn after the separation. He said, “I was a teetotaller until I went through my first divorce with Reena. And then, on the first day when she left with the kids and I was alone at home, I couldn’t handle my emotions at that time. I had never, I used to never drink alcohol. I had drunk once or twice for a couple of scenes, but that was only because I had to drink for the scene. I mean, I was not into alcohol at all.”

He further shared how loneliness hit him hard when he found himself alone at home. That moment became a turning point in his life.
He added, “That night, I had alcohol at home to serve guests and all that, so I started drinking. And for the next one and a half years, I drank almost a bottle a night. Now that’s really extreme, from a person who was a teetotaller to someone who consumes a bottle a night is very extreme.”
Aamir’s Life After Divorce
Over time, Aamir Khan moved forward and rebuilt his life. After his separation from Reena Dutta, he married Kiran Rao in 2005. However, the couple later parted ways in 2021 after 16 years of marriage.
Despite these changes, Aamir has maintained a respectful bond with both his former partners. He continues to co-parent his children and often talks about the importance of understanding and support in relationships.
At present, Aamir Khan is in a relationship with Gauri Spratt. He introduced her publicly in March 2025 during a media interaction before his 60th birthday. He revealed that they had known each other for over 25 years before reconnecting.
According to Aamir, their relationship feels calm and meaningful. He shared that they reconnected through a family connection and slowly grew closer. He also said that he already feels deeply committed and considers the relationship very serious.
Gauri (who is from Bengaluru) is also a mother and now works with Aamir Khan Productions. She has reportedly been warmly accepted by his family, including Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao.
