Bhagwant Mann Targets Central Govt Over ED Actions, Calls It Attack on Constitution and Democracy, Check details

Punjab CM Bhagwat Mann criticized the Central Government over ED actions, alleging misuse of central agencies against opposing leaders and calling it an attack on democracy and the Constitution.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has criticized the Central Government over recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) actions, calling them an attack on democracy and the Constitution. He alleged misuse of central agencies against opposition leaders. The Centre, however, has rejected these claims, stating that ED operates independently and follows legal procedures.

Political Storm Erupts Over ED Actions

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has strongly criticized the Central Government over recent actions taken by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He alleged that the use of central agencies is being misused for political purposes and said it raises serious questions about democracy and constitutional values in India. His remarks have once again triggered a political debate between the Centre and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), especially on the issue of investigative agency independence.

Allegations of Misuse of Power

Bhagwant Mann claimed that repeated ED actions against opposition leaders are not just routine investigations but a pattern that looks politically motivated. According to him, such actions weaken democratic institutions and create fear among elected representatives. He stated that constitutional bodies must work independently and should not be influenced by political pressure.

Opposition Raises Concerns

AAP leaders have also supported Mann’s statement, saying that central agencies are being used to target opposition-ruled states and parties. They argue that selective investigations damage public trust in institutions meant to ensure fairness and justice.

Centre’s Stand on ED Actions

On the other hand, the Central Government maintains that the Enforcement Directorate is only acting based on evidence and legal procedures. It has repeatedly denied all allegations of political misuse, stating that law enforcement agencies operate independently.

Growing Centre–State Tensions

This controversy adds to the ongoing friction between opposition-ruled states and the Central Government. The debate over agency autonomy, federal structure, and political accountability continues to be a major issue in Indian politics.
