IRGC: Indian Ship Dragged To Tehran, 3 Ships Attacked! Masoud Pezeshkian And Mojtaba Khamenei Sidelined, What’s Next For Iran And India Relations?

IRGC: The Iranian President has been sidelined and many believed that Mojtaba if alive has been heavily influenced or even overshadowed by the IRGC.

IRGC: The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has two ships including an India-bound ship after it failed to provide the required permits. In a statement, the IRGC said “EPAMINODES” that endangered maritime security and “MSC-FRANCESCA” (linked to the Zionist regime) were seized. The first ship was headed to the Indian state Gujarat from Jebel Ali in Dubai.

IRGC Escalation-What The Strait Of Hormuz Crisis Means For Iran-India Relations?

India and the Islamic Republic of Iran have shared cordial relations for several decades. For India, a country that is heavily dependent on Gulf energy routes, the implications of such marine adventures by IRGC could be immediate and profound.

According to media reports, the IRGC opened fire on at least 3 commercial vehicles and seized 2 amid the ongoing Middle East crisis. These incidents happened in the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the world’s most critical chokepoints, through which approximately 20-25 percent of global oil supply flows.

Internal Turbulence In Tehran

On February 28 this year, the joint forces of USA and Israel attacked Iran and killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several top leaders. In weeks ahead, several prominent loyal Iranian leaders were also killed, triggering a rapid leadership transition.

Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, rose to power but is believed to be seriously injured or dead after joint strikes by USA and Israel. The Iranian President has been sidelined and many believed that Mojtaba if alive has been heavily influenced or even overshadowed by the IRGC.

In such a political environment where leadership vacuum is huge in Iran, actions like serious attacks on commercial ships of friendly nations such as India may not be purely state policy but manifestations of factional dominance within the regime.

Why Indian Ships Are Being Targeted By IRGC?

The attacks on Indian ships signal three possible strategic messages from Iran:

1. Pressure on Neutral Actors: By targeting non-Western countries like India, Iran broadens the cost of U.S.-led sanctions and blockades, internationalizing the crisis.

2. Demonstration of Control: Striking Indian vessels underscore Iran’s ability to disrupt even neutral or friendly trade routes.

3. Negotiation Leverage: Each maritime incident increases global urgency for de-escalation, strengthening Iran’s bargaining position.

The current crisis could reshape the dynamics between India and Iran in several ways. India may reduce its exposure to Iranian routes in the short term and Iran may attempt to reassure India to prevent further diplomatic fallout. This is simply because Tehran has historically valued its relationship with New Delhi as a counterbalance to Western isolation.
