Fatty liver is no longer seen only in adults who consume junk food or follow unhealthy lifestyles. Doctors say even children who eat home-cooked meals and appear healthy are being diagnosed with mild fatty liver during routine ultrasound scans.
In a YouTube video, liver specialist Dr SK Sarin explained why fatty liver has become so common and how many people are unknowingly putting their liver health at risk. According to him, the issue is not always about eating outside food. In many cases, people simply do not know what their ideal body weight should be.
The doctor used a simple example to explain the problem. He compared the human body to a car tyre. If a tyre has more air than needed, the vehicle becomes unstable. Similarly, when body weight increases beyond the healthy range, fat slowly starts building up inside the body and the liver.
Fatty Liver And The Simple Weight Formula
Doctor SK Sarin shared an easy formula to help people understand whether their body weight is healthy or not.
Here’s the formula:
- Height (in cm) minus 100 = ideal weight for men
- Height (in cm) minus 105 = ideal weight for women
For example:
- A man with a height of 160 cm should ideally weigh around 60 kg
- A woman of the same height should weigh around 55 kg
The doctor also added that if there is a family history of diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, heart disease, or cancer, then keeping body weight 5 kg lower may be even better.

Why Fatty Liver Is Becoming Common
The doctor explained that many people are unaware of their correct weight range. Because of this, fat slowly accumulates in the liver over time.
He described the liver as the “chartered accountant” of the body because it stores extra calories when people overeat. If someone eats heavily for a few days, especially during parties or celebrations, the liver stores the excess fat in the body’s fat tissues.
Over time, this can lead to weight gain and fatty liver. The doctor stressed that gaining weight is easy, but losing it later becomes much harder.
