Shah Rukh Khan has often spoken openly about the deep pain of losing his parents at a young age. While fans know him today as the “King Khan” of Bollywood, the actor’s journey was shaped by grief, struggle and an emotional promise he made to himself after their death.
In one of his most heartfelt conversations, Shah Rukh revealed why he fears dying early. The actor shared that after losing both his parents at a young age, he wants to live a long life so his own children never experience the same pain he went through growing up without parents.
Shah Rukh Khan Lost Both Parents At A Young Age
Shah Rukh Khan lost his father, Mir Taj Mohammed Khan, when he was just 14 years old. Years later, he lost his mother, Lateef Fatima, when he was in his early twenties. The actor has repeatedly admitted that those losses completely changed his life and forced him to become emotionally strong very early.
Speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai, SRK had said, “My parents died when I was young. My father, when I was 14. My mother, when I was 24. So, I lost them in a gap of 10 years.”

The actor also recalled how lonely life felt after their deaths. He shared that it was only him and his sister left together, and he had to figure out life on his own.
Over the years, Shah Rukh has emotionally spoken about how losing his parents shaped the way he looks at family and fatherhood. In an older interaction, the actor explained that he does not want his children — Aryan Khan, Suhana Khan and AbRam Khan — to grow up without him.
The actor had shared that he wants to live long because he never wants his children to feel the emptiness he experienced after losing his own parents. He said, “I want to be there for my kids so much that I annoy them. I cannot die early. I have to live long enough to ensure they never feel the abandonment I felt at 15.”
Shah Rukh Khan Says His Parents Still Motivate Him
Despite becoming one of the world’s biggest movie stars, Shah Rukh says the absence of his parents still affects him deeply. The actor once admitted that much of his ambition came from wanting to make his parents proud, even after they were gone.
At a Dubai event, he emotionally said he wanted to become “so big on Earth” that his parents could see him from heaven.
