According to the Uttar Pradesh Government, the ropeway will connect Cantt Railway Station with Godowlia over a distance of 3.85 kilometres, reducing travel time to just 16 minutes. The government said the fare will start at ₹10 per station
The government said the fare will start at ₹10 per station, while the end-to-end journey will cost ₹50, making the service both affordable and accessible. The ropeway system will operate with 148 gondola cabins, enabling efficient movement of passengers throughout the day.
The project is designed to reduce road congestion, lower vehicular emissions, and improve last-mile connectivity in Varanasi’s densely populated areas. It is also expected to enhance the travel experience for the millions of pilgrims and visitors who travel to the city every year.
The Uttar Pradesh Government said the ropeway reflects its commitment to adopting modern and sustainable transport solutions while strengthening urban infrastructure. The initiative is expected to become a model for future urban mobility projects in other Indian cities.
