A tragic incident of a boating accident in the waters surrounding Phu Quoc in Vietnam has taken the lives of 15 Indians, causing a great deal of sorrow amongst Indian citizens.
What Occurred in the Vietnam Boat Disaster?
The disaster occurred in the waters surrounding Phu Quoc Island, where a tourist boat carrying Indian tourists reportedly sank after experiencing very difficult weather conditions in the water. Many passengers on board have survived after the rescue efforts, but 15 Indians died in the process.

Lava Mobiles confirmed that all 15 Indians who died were directly associated with the company. According to the company, 14 of the deceased were its channel partners, including dealers and distributors, while one was a Lava Mobiles employee. The group had traveled to Vietnam as part of a company-sponsored incentive tour to reward top-performing partners who had achieved their sales targets.

The deceased belonged to different parts of southern India.
- Tamil Nadu: 10 victims
- Andhra Pradesh: 3 victims
- Kerala: 2 victims
Survivor Recounts the Horror
One of the survivors described the terrifying incident, saying the boat had travelled around two kilometers into the sea when a massive wave struck, causing it to tilt violently. Passengers were thrown off balance as panic spread across the boat.
Governments Step In
Following the tragedy, the Indian Embassy in Vietnam began coordinating with Vietnamese authorities to assist the affected families and facilitate the repatriation of the victims’ mortal remains. State governments in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala also announced support for the bereaved families.
