The Uttarakhand government has announced free travel for women on state-run Uttarakhand Transport Corporation buses on August 28 and 29, 2026. The 100 per cent fare waiver will apply to travel within Uttarakhand, with the state government undertaking reimbursement of the additional financial burden on the transport corporation.
Duty as Women Get Free Bus Travel
The decision is expected to provide significant relief to women travelling to their maternal homes for Raksha Bandhan. With passenger numbers likely to increase around the festival, roadways staff are being prepared to ensure smooth bus operations and better passenger management.
The free-travel facility is aimed at making festival travel more convenient and reducing the financial burden on women. The two-day arrangement also gives passengers greater flexibility to plan their journeys instead of having to complete their travel on a single day.
