Bahraich Police have now issued an official clarification rejecting that claim.
What Happened
According to the police statement, the incident took place on August 28, 2026, after a 55-year-old woman was struck by a motorcycle in a road accident. The inspector at the scene picked her up and carried her toward a vehicle to rush her for medical attention, an act captured on camera by a bystander and later shared widely online.
Why the Officer Carried Her
Police explained that the official response vehicle was stationed around 250 metres away at the time of the accident. Given the woman’s critical condition, the inspector chose to carry her the shorter distance of roughly 30 to 35 metres to reach a vehicle faster, prioritising immediate transport and first aid over waiting for the designated vehicle to arrive.
Police Push Back on “Performative” Criticism
Addressing the backlash, Bahraich Police stressed that saving a life took precedence over procedural formality in that moment, and that the video was recorded and uploaded without the department’s knowledge or consent. Officials said framing the act as a “reel-inspired” or performative gesture misrepresents what was, in reality, a split-second emergency decision.
