Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren extended greetings to people on the occasion of Karam Parv, describing the festival as an important symbol of the state’s connection with nature, community life and cultural traditions.
In a social media message, Soren highlighted the festival’s association with the relationship between human life and nature, the bond between brothers and sisters, social unity and Jharkhand’s rich folk traditions. Karam Parv is being observed across Jharkhand on September 22 this year.
Hemant Soren Highlights Bond With Nature
Soren said Karam Parv reminds people of the importance of respecting and protecting nature. He referred to water, forests and land as not only essential to human life but also as part of the cultural heritage that must be preserved for future generations.
The festival is traditionally associated with the worship of the Karam tree and is closely connected with nature, agriculture and community life. The Jharkhand government describes Karam as a major traditional festival involving worship, group singing and dancing.
Festival Celebrates Brother-Sister Bond
The Chief Minister also highlighted the significance of the festival in strengthening the bond between brothers and sisters.
Karam celebrations traditionally include the installation and worship of a Karam branch, along with folk songs and community dances accompanied by instruments such as the mandar. In several communities, women and girls observe rituals associated with the well-being and prosperity of their brothers.
Soren Calls for Preservation of Jharkhand’s Traditions
Soren said that while Jharkhand continues on the path of modernisation and development, its people should remain connected with their language, culture, traditions, indigenous knowledge and relationship with nature.
