Bhagwant Mann Highlights Punjab Education Reforms, Says NEET Qualifiers Rose to 882

The government has since highlighted efforts aimed at improving facilities and educational outcomes in government schools.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has highlighted the state government’s education reforms since 2022, citing improvements in school infrastructure and the rising number of government-school students qualifying for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).

According to the Aam Aadmi Party’s Punjab unit, Mann said Punjab has emerged as a leading state in education within four years of the reforms being initiated.

Punjab Government Highlights Education Reforms Since 2022

The AAP Punjab post said reforms in school infrastructure and the education system began in 2022. The government has since highlighted efforts aimed at improving facilities and educational outcomes in government schools.

Mann has previously attributed the rise in NEET results to improvements in government-school education, including greater academic support and preparation for competitive examinations.

NEET Qualifiers Rise From Around 80 to 882

One of the key figures highlighted by the Chief Minister is the increase in the number of students from Punjab government schools qualifying for NEET.

Mann said the number rose from around 80 students in 2021 to 882 in 2026. The figure of 882 has also been reported in coverage of the Chief Minister’s remarks.

The increase represents more than a tenfold rise over the period cited by the Chief Minister.

Bhagwant Mann Says Punjab Has Reached No. 1 Position

The AAP Punjab post claimed that Punjab moved ahead of Kerala to become the country’s No. 1 state in education within four years.

This is a political claim about the state’s education performance. Government of India data from the Performance Grading Index (PGI) for 2023-24, for example, recorded Punjab’s score at 631.2 and Kerala’s at 594.2; the two states were placed in different PGI grade bands.

The latest AAP statement presents the improvement in NEET outcomes and education reforms as indicators of the changes taking place in Punjab’s government-school system.
