Bhagwant Mann Government’s Anti-Gangster Drive Hits 77,756 Arrests as Police Nab 4 Proclaimed Offenders and Seize Weapons

Punjab Police's statewide anti-gangster campaign has crossed 77,756 cumulative arrests, with the latest round of raids netting four proclaimed offenders and more weapons. The drive continues under the Mann government's push for a gangster-free Punjab.

Bhagwant Mann: Punjab‘s anti-gangster campaign has reached a new milestone, with cumulative arrests now standing at 77,756. In the latest round of statewide raids, police arrested four proclaimed offenders and seized weapons, adding to a count that has risen by hundreds almost every day. Arrests under the campaign stood at 77,071 on October 8, so the total has grown steadily over the past few days.

Raids Continue Across the State

The operation runs through daily raids at identified locations linked to gangster associates. On October 9, police arrested 245 people during 591 raids and recovered four weapons. Officials also take preventive action against suspects on a daily basis, while district police units work alongside the Anti-Gangster Task Force.

Campaign Backed by CM Mann

The campaign was launched on January 20, 2026 by DGP Gaurav Yadav under the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. Its stated aim is to make Punjab a gangster-free state. The Mann government has presented the drive as proof of its zero-tolerance approach to organised crime.

Proclaimed Offenders and Weapons Targeted

Arresting proclaimed offenders, who have evaded court summons, remains a key part of the strategy. Each day’s operations typically net several such offenders along with a small number of illegal weapons. Police say the aim is to dismantle gangster networks and cut off their access to arms before they can be used.

Public Helpline for Tips

Police have urged citizens to help. An anti-gangster helpline, 93946-93946, lets people report wanted criminals or illegal activity anonymously. Officials say public tip-offs are important to keeping the pressure on gangster networks.

What Lies Ahead

Bhagwant Mann: With arrests nearing the 78,000 mark, police say operations will continue with the same intensity. The government hopes sustained action will deter recruitment into gangs and improve public safety across the state.
