BJP Governs Bihar, Gujarat, Rajasthan & Goa; Amit Shah Must Explain Why Drug Menace is Growing There: Arvind Kejriwal

Before speaking about Punjab, Amit Shah must demonstrate that he can eliminate drugs in BJP-ruled states: Arvind Kejriwal

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has hit out at Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the BJP’s so-called campaign against drugs in Punjab, questioning the drug menace in BJP-ruled states and the seizure of narcotics at Gujarat’s Mundra port. AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal challenged Amit Shah to demonstrate results in Bihar, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Goa before making claims about Punjab.

AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal shared a media report on ‘X’ about the growing illegal drug trade in Bihar despite prohibition and questioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the issue. Arvind Kejriwal asked, “Bihar, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Goa all have BJP governments. Why has the drug menace not been eradicated there? Have no deadlines been set for eliminating drugs in these states?”

“Are you now claiming that you will eradicate drugs in Punjab in the same way that you have supposedly eliminated them in Bihar? Before speaking about Punjab, Amit Shah must first demonstrate that he can eliminate drugs in BJP-ruled states,” asserted the AAP Chief.

Reacting to the growing drug trade in Bihar, the AAP pointed out that Amit Shah, the BJP has been in power in Bihar for 20 years. AAP stated, “You have finally turned Bihar into ‘Udta Bihar’. As always, you feel no shame either. From 2007 to 2017, you facilitated drug trafficking in Punjab in alliance with the Akali Dal, destroying an entire generation. Now you come to Punjab and make grand claims. Nothing you say about drugs carries any credibility. Tell the country when Bihar will become drug-free. And this time, do not bury your head in the sand like an ostrich.”

The AA stated, “Under the leadership of the Bhagwant Mann Government, we promised a safer Punjab, and we are delivering on that promise. Since 2022, more than 1.27 lakh arrests have been made in drug-related cases, over 7,260 kilograms of heroin have been seized, and 1,288 criminal modules have been busted. This is only the beginning. We are committed to completely eliminating drugs and gangsters from Punjab.”

Meanwhile, senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh stated, “The BJP and Akali Dal governments committed the sin and crime of pushing Punjab into drugs. Every child in Punjab knows this. There is nothing hidden about who spread drugs in Punjab and who ran a drug business worth thousands of crores of rupees.”

Referring to the seizure of narcotics at Mundra port in Gujarat, the AAP MP asserted, “In Gujarat, the home state of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, drugs worth ₹20,000 crore were seized from Adani’s Mundra port. At the time, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) told the Supreme Court in writing that the accused should not be granted bail because the money from these drugs was being used to fund terrorist training in Pakistan.”

Sanjay Singh questioned the BJP’s response to the seizure, adding, “Neither Amit Shah nor the BJP issued any statement on the drugs seized at Adani’s port, nor did they explain what action had been taken against Adani or whether he had been questioned. The complete record is available in the government’s own replies in Parliament.”

Taking a further swipe at the BJP, he said, “People from a state like Gujarat, where prohibition is in force but around 100 people died after consuming illicit liquor, have no standing to lecture others on this issue. When the BJP speaks about drugs, it is like Osama bin Laden preaching non-violence.”

On the other hand, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj questioned Amit Shah over several cases in Delhi, including the rice and bicycle procurement scams. He stated, “Amit Shah must explain why the CBI has not questioned Manjinder Singh Sirsa or named him as an accused in the case involving the theft of 5 crore kilograms of rice. We submitted a complaint about the bicycle scam to Amit Shah’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) a month and a half ago. Bicycles costing ₹4,000 were purchased for ₹7,000. What is Amit Shah doing about it? Is he intoxicated by something? Why has no action been taken against the minister concerned so far?”

Saurabh Bharadwaj further questioned the handling of an ₹700-crore Health Scam, stating, “Files were supposedly burnt in the ₹700-crore health scam. What is the ACB, which works under Amit Shah, doing about it? None of his departments seems to be able to get its work done.”

Turning to drug trafficking across India’s borders, the AAP Delhi Chief asserted, “The opium and narcotics produced in Afghanistan enter India through the borders, which fall under Amit Shah’s responsibility. He must explain what he has been doing for the past 12 years and how these drugs are entering the country. Drugs are circulating in Delhi, Haryana, Bihar and Jammu and Kashmir. When will Amit Shah tell the country where these drugs are coming from?”

Concluding his attack, Saurabh Bharadwaj asked, “When will Amit Shah’s intoxication with power wear off? At some point, he must demonstrate some actual work. Will mere talk be enough? He has spent years talking.”
