Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath called for continued vigilance against polio on World Polio Day, urging parents to ensure that every child receives the vaccine.

CM Yogi Adityanath Emphasises ‘Two Drops’ of Polio Vaccine

The Chief Minister appealed to people to ensure that every child receives the two drops of polio vaccine. He said continued awareness and vaccination are essential to protecting future generations from the disease.

He also congratulated doctors and healthcare workers for their contributions to India’s fight against polio, recognising the role of health professionals in vaccination campaigns and disease prevention.

Why Polio Vaccination Remains Important

Polio is a highly infectious viral disease that primarily affects children under five years of age. It can attack the nervous system and cause irreversible paralysis. There is no cure for paralytic polio, but vaccination can prevent infection and help stop transmission.

India was certified polio-free by the World Health Organization’s South-East Asia Region in March 2014. However, the continued circulation of poliovirus in some parts of the world means that maintaining immunisation coverage and surveillance remains important.

Public Awareness and Immunisation Key to Prevention

Polio vaccination campaigns aim to reach children across communities, including those who may miss routine immunisation. Repeated vaccination helps build protection and reduces the risk of the virus spreading.

Adityanath urged people to keep spreading awareness about polio prevention and ensure that children do not miss vaccination opportunities.

His message on World Polio Day highlighted the importance of collective efforts by families, healthcare workers and communities in preserving India’s polio-free status.
