Neymar, soccer’s star player, is one of three Paris St.-Germain players who played in last week’s Champions League final to test positive for the coronavirus.
Neymar suffered heartbreak previous week when they lost in its first appearance in the Champions League final.
The positive cases put in sceptical about the availability of the three P.S.G. players for its first league game in defense on Sept. 10. The coronavirus has already affected the start of the French season, with the opening game between Marseille and St.-Étienne postponed after Marseille reported four positive tests.
P.S.G. said it would carry out further tests on players and staff over the next few days.
Internationally, Neymar was considered for the Brazilian side that participated in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, but he was ultimately not included on the squad. Instead, he made his debut for the national team in August 2010, in a friendly match against the U.S., where he scored his first international goal in Brazil’s 2–0 win.
