NEP 2020 to focus on class rooms beyond walls, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Friday, addressed the conclave on ‘School Education in 21st century’ under newly introduced National Education Policy 2020. The event was held through a video conferencing.

The two-day conclave has been organised by Ministry of Education as a part of the ‘Shiksha Parv’, the Prime Minister’s Office(PMO) said in a statement.

The Prime Minister in his speech emphasised on the value of practical learning. He also mentioned that marksheets shouldn’t be our parameters to judge students’ potential.

The PM also assured that a national curriculum framework will be developed till 2022.

Here are the key highlights of PM Modi’s speech on “School Education in 21st Century” under NEP-2020:

  • Marksheet became ‘pressure sheet’ for students and ‘prestige sheet’ for families, NEP’s goal is to remove this pressure: PM Modi.
  • A national curriculum framework will be developed; students should have a new curriculum in 2022 when nation marks 75th year of Independence.
  • Every region of the world has changed in the last three decades. Every system has changed. There is hardly any aspect of our life in these three decades which is the same as before. But the path on which society moves towards the future, our education system, it was still running on the old pattern.
  • MyGov received more than than 1.5 million suggestions about implementing the National Education Policy. These suggestions will help implement the policy in a more effective way.
  • We have to advance our students with 21st Century Skills. These will be: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, Curiosity, Communication.
  • We need to understand one scientific thing that language is the medium of education and not a study itself. Whichever language the child can easily learn, learn things, the same language should be the language of learning.
  • Do not limit class rooms to the walls: PM Narendra Modi said.

The education festival also knwon as the ‘Shiksha Parv’ is being celebrated from September 8-25 to recognize teachers as well as take New Education Policy forward.

Earlier, PM Modi also delivered the inaugural speech at the conclave on ‘Transformational Reforms in Higher Education’ under NEP-2020 on August 7.
