Global Recycling Day: From waste to innovation! Here’s how Audi is turning old car parts into new vehicles

Global Recycling Day: Through its collaborative effort called “Material Loop,” Audi is extending the number of material cycles in the automotive sector. Audi is researching the use of post-consumer materials from the automotive industry, which are removed from customer vehicles at the end of their lifecycle, with the assistance of 15 partners from the research, recycling, and supplier sectors. These materials are used to make new automobiles.

100 vehicles were disassembled in October 2022

As a part of the collaborative Material Loop initiative with Audi, 100 vehicles were disassembled in October 2022, and the pilot experiment will last until the end of April. The company claims to have implemented important results from the Material Loop project, with some materials currently being fed back into the manufacture of automobiles.

The Q4 e-tron is already made using this recycled glass

Audi claims that over the next few years, the corporate fleet will gradually raise its percentage of recycled materials, starting with the recycling of used auto glass. Broken down into small pieces, sorted, melted down, and made into new plate glass for the automotive industry, car windows that are beyond repair are used in this process. According to Audi, the Q4 e-tron is already made using this recycled glass. Audi expects to use the coils to create up to 15,000 inner door parts for the Audi A4 car at the Ingolstadt press factory and the quantity of recycled steel from automobiles in the coil claims to be enhanced further.
